Kaspersky: A Criminal Hacking Group Turning Its Activity Into Cryptocurrency

Kaspersky recently conducted an investigation focused on DeathNote, a unit of the notorious Lazarus cybercriminal group, and found its transformation significantly over the years.
The group began attacks on cryptocurrency-related companies around the world in 2019. At the end of 2022, it was responsible for campaigns targeting IT and other defense companies in Europe, Latin America, South Korea, and Africa.
The latest report issued by Kaspersky revealed the shift in the group's goals, as well as the development and refinement of its tools, methods and procedures over the past four years.
The Lazarus group has been targeting cryptocurrency-related businesses continuously for a long time, and while monitoring their activities, Kaspersky noticed that the same group used a highly variable malware in one case.
In mid-October 2019, Kaspersky experts found a suspicious document that had been uploaded to the VirusTotal website.
